There is a lot of hype surrounding the Astrodome. People want to save it, people want to tear it down, people want to know what it is. Well, 14 Pews is hosting a screening of the 1976 Edinburgh Film Festival winner of the Documentary Prize, The Pleasure of this Stately Dome. The film shows you the process in many different stages, from the beginning when Judge Roy Hofheinz sells the idea to the Harris County Commissioners Court to the ground breaking ceremony with “six shooter pistols” to opening night celebrations. The screening will be followed by a talk-back with director Geoff Winningham and the event will be accompanied by donated beer from 8th Wonder.

The timing of this screening could’t be better, this month on the voting ballots is Proposition 2, which is asking for the issuance of $217,000,000.00 Harris County Astrodome redevelopment bonds and other such political money words to bring life back into the Astrodome. Head out to 14 Pews Monday night for The Pleasure of this Stately Dome then go vote YES on Prop 2, so we can keep this landmark!
