Bands to check out this week at SXSW
By Jacob Calle: Good ole’ SXSW again. Home away from home. Bring a bike, some good shoes, and an empty stomach to down free food and alcohol. Here are a few of my favorite that I’d like to share with you guys. Hope to see you at some of these shows! And yes, they are all free!
THURSDAY
Little Willies - 1pm - Waterloo Records
Can’t afford to see Norah Jones live? Well go to Waterloo and check out her side project Little Willies where she will play for free in Austin’s most infamous record shop! This is an outdoor show so no need to get their promptly on time.
Best Coast - 1:50pm - Parking Garage - 9th & Trinity
The Cults - 2:55 - Parking Garage - 9th & Trinity
Best Coast and The Cults playing a back to back set on top of a parking garage. ‘Nudd said.
Soccer Team - 3pm - Club 1808 - 1808 E. 12th St @ Chicon St.
Fan of Dischord Records? Check out this female/male duo!
Tennis - 4pm - Stages on 6th
Fan of The Cults? I’d say that Tennis is a more light hearted version of that band.

Check Frankie out if you dig: Austra, Oh Land, Bats for Lashes….yeh, you get it.
Chairlift - 5pm - Flaming Cantina

Diane’s musical talent will slay your world.

Dan Deacon - 5pm - Club de Ville
Remember how evacuating Houston during Hurricane Ike was mandatory? Well so is Dan Deacon. Be there.
The Shins - 8pm - Auditorium Shores
Free Shins show? Well duhhhhhh!!!!

Playing on a roof top garage. Channeling out of SXSW doing non official shows? Pretty bad ass.

If you were part of that “emo” scene back in the day then you know what a damn charm this is to be able to see this band. Blair’s shouty vocals with sensitive guitar strokes….yeh, I’m there. Gonna be dope.
The Outlaw Roadshow - 12pm - Rusty’s
Adam from Counting Crow’s is throwing a party. Free beer. Hell, how rad would it be if Counting Crows played a pop up show there!

I’m not sure when they play, but if you RSVPd to this you get to eat food and drink beer. Good enough for me.
