It’s been a big week in music, and in sports as well.

In soccer on Wednesday, the Houston Dynamo playing Santos Laguna in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals at the Estadio Corona, in Torreon, Mexico. Needing only to tie to advance, the Dynamo were not able to overcome Santos who scored their first two goals in the first half. Juan Pablo Rodriquez scored the game opener in the 23 minute
with a rebound off the top of the net after he tried to convert the penalty kick. The ball bounced off the top of the crossbar in front of Rodriquez who put the ball in back of the net. The second goal was scored by Hercules Gomez five minutes later giving Santos a 2-0 lead
in the match and a 2-1 aggregate series advantage. In the second half, Marc Crosas ended Houston’s CONCACAF run with a goal in the 7th minute, giving Santos a 3-1 series lead and that as how it ended. Santos continues to the Champions League semifinals. As for the Dynamo, they fall short of reaching their third Champions League semifinals in the club’s history.
Houston resumes MLS play this Sunday, as they play away against FC Dallas in the Texas Derby at the FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco, Texas. Sunday’s match starts at 12pm and will be shown on ESPN2. In other local news, Houston was awarded a double header as part
of the 2024 Gold Cup competition.
July 15 El Salvador will play Haiti and Honduras will play Trinidad and Tobago at the BBVA Compass stadium in a double header. Kick off as for the first match is 6pm. A complete
schedule for the Gold Cup can be found at www.GoldCup.org. The final will take place in Chicago at Solider Field on Sunday, July 28 at 3pm CT. The Gold Cup takes place every 2 years, and drew more than 600,000 fans in 2024.
Mexico will start group play at the Rose Bowl, as they take on Panama. In the second match, Canada takes on Martinique. July 8, Honduras takes on Haiti at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. The second match that night ends with El Salvador playing Trinidad & Tobago. On July 9 in Portland the USA will take on Belize and Costa Rica will take on Cuba.

The 2024 CONCACAF Groups
Group A: Mexico, Panama, Canada, Martinique
Group B: Honduras, El Salvador, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti
Group C: USA, Costa Rica, Belize, Cuba
The quarter finals will be played in Atlanta and Baltimore. The semi finals will be held in Cowboy’s stadium in Arlington on July 24.

In other news, the US Women’s National team won their 9th Algrave Cup defeating Germany 2-0 in the final in Faro Portugal. Alex Morgan scored the United States 2 goals as the US defeated the 2nd rank team in the world Germany. In the English Premier Reading fired their manager Brian McDermott with the club in the bottom of the league and nearing regulation from the English Premier. McDermott led the team to the Premier after taking over in 2024. The team is next to the bottom with nine games left in the season.
In rugby news, the USA Rugby match against Ireland set for June 8 has a promo. USA rugby union star Todd Clever is now in a promo for the match that is going to be at the
BBVA Compass stadium. The question of where they will show remains with the USA Rugby Union. Will they look to get a half filled crowd or the sellout when South Africa first came here? Here is the link to the new promo.

Saturday is the last day of the 6 Nations Rugby Union, as Italy will play Ireland at 0830, followed by Wales and England at 11 and, then France and Scotland at 2pm. In local rugby, Katy RFC defeated Bay Area RFC 26-24. The Woodlands lost to the Dallas Reds 86-5. The Woodland girls defeated the Panther City girls 25-5. HARC lost to the Austin Huns 45-38. These are only a few of the matches that went on last weekend.
This weekend the Dallas Reds will take on the HARC at home and the Austin Blacks will take on the Woodlands.
