The Herbal List — Halloween Edition

It’s that time of year again — that time midway between the Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice (I mean Day For Night, what what!) when the portals between this world and the afterlife open and everything is turned on its head.
Speaking of which, though this week presents the opposite problem as last week — that there are TOO MANY events to list — no matter what you do, above all else, please be safe and kind to one another. Don’t drink and drive.
And now, for the week’s events:
Thursday, October 29
Space Puppet Relay Team: Project Terra — Nick Bontrager & Emily Link’s show opens at the Matchbox Gallery in Sewall Hall at Rice University, 7:30 - 10 pm.
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD — For the 5th year, UHD brings horror to the public with a screening of the black and white underground classic. The screening, which begins at dark, will be OUTSIDE on the North Deck at 1 Main Street. Blankets, chairs, picnic, and costumes are encouraged. Popcorn and pizza until its gone. Meet up at 7 pm.
Non Grata at Notsuoh — If you’re into performance art, then this should be a treat. Come see the Estonian performance art collective that famously smashed up a car with sledgehammers a couple years ago at the Lonestar Performance Biennale. Starts at 9 pm.
Friday, October 30
Cat’s Cradle — The Kerry Inman gallery hosts the opening for Tommy Fitzpatrick’s photographs of intricate spaces, 6 - 8 pm, free.
Scream on the Green — Discovery Green’s annual, citywide Halloween event. Costume contests, a film screening, and more fun for the whole family. 6 - 10 pm, free.
100 Legit — Pablo Cardoza and Chris Meshak’s DJ party returns to Cardoza Fine Art. These parties are so fun because the DJs themselves are having so much fun. Starts at 9 pm.
Saturday, October 31
2nd Annual Magnolia Park Block Party — This family-friendly, all-day affair features live music and other performances, food trucks, a burrito-eating contest, and a costume contest for both kids and dogs. With weather like we’ve been having, where else would you want to be? 11 am - 7 pm. This event is going to be rescheduled because of expected weather problems.
Halloween at the Moon Tower — Come trip out on some Halloween Night Tricks and Treats w/ American Sharks, Future Death, Muhammadali, a wild visual feast with the Funwuncers and a lot more! 6:30 - 10 pm.
Sunday, November 1
Cigna Sunday Streets - Museum Park - With no cars on the road, you’ll be able to walk, run, dance bike or play in the streets with friends, family and neighbors. Along Caroline St. from Wentworth to Binz, and Binz St. from Caroline to Chenevert. 12 - 4 pm.
Monday, November 2
Every Monday I recommend the same four things: They, Who Sound at Avant Garden, Glover Gill tango piano at the Continental Club, theStraight, No Chaser jazz jam, and Fantastic Voyage at the Flat.
This Monday is no different. Monday is the new Thursday.
Tuesday, November 3
Neo Benshi 14 — Boo Town presents at Mysterious Science Theater-type thing where actors talk over a film that’s being screened with much better dialog. PJ’s Sports Bar (614 West Gray) at 8pm, $5.
