The Invitation
There are some parties you don’t want an invitation to. A couple winds their way up a canyon road to a swank dinner party. Right off the bat the driver hits a coyote, which is badly wounded. He has to put the poor animal out of its misery. This is a portent of things to come.
“Everybody here is weird,” says one of the guests. “But then again it’s L.A.”
Once the couple arrives we meet the other denizens of the party. Under the direction of Karyn Kusama (Girlfight, Jennifer’s Body) we begin a slow burn towards a startling climax.
People play games at parties, and they drink wine. At this get together both the games and the libations are likely to be spiked. To get more specific would be to spoil the particulars. Movies like The Invitation are all about the big revelation. And when it comes it’s a doozy.
The players include Tammy Blanchard, Lindsay Burdge, John Carroll Lynch and Logan Marshall-Green. The Invitation is playing exclusively at the Alamo Drafthouse Vintage Park.
