Well actually, Shannon Freshwater not only used the graphic idea of Jermaine Rogers, she used the artistic style of artist Judy Chicago’s works. So I would call her a very derivative illlustrator.

Jermaine Rogers is famously known in poster artist circles for his delusions of grandeur and self-aggrandizing. Not surprised that he is trying to use the NYT illustration — which, frankly, is better than his rip-off of a CCR album — to drum up publicity. This is a guy who co-opted classic rock albums for a recent gig poster series for the Foo Fighters.

Interesting that Rogers himself remains civil and indeed “strangely flattered” when discussing the similarity between the pieces. Perhaps we could all take our cues from him. Especially since we don’t know for a fact that Freshwater saw the Rogers piece before creating hers.
