Texans Thankful for 10-1 Despite Controversy

tempAP63076067654--nfl_mezz_1280_1024

By Maxwell Morgan After emerging from my turkey induced coma, I cannot believe the Texans pulled off a miraculous consecutive overtime victory Thursday. This game was one that had me worried. I figured to see gassed players, and feared of any devastating injuries. Not to mention, the game just so happened to be on my favorite holiday. Just by the skin of their teeth, the Texans made this Thanksgiving a memorable one for their fans by winning a thriller of game, riddled with controversy, 34-31 in OT to move to 10-1 on the season. I don’t like to think of ... Read More »

Texans Survive OT Thriller, 9-1

By Maxwell Morgan Sunday, the Texans hosted the division rival Jacksonville Jaguars in what would turn into an overtime thriller capped by a game winning touchdown reception for Andre Johnson. The Jags (aka Glitter Kitties) are one of the worst teams in the NFL. The Texans are one of the best. Everyone, including myself, had the glitter kitties written off. This game was going to be a blowout, right? Wrong! The Jags came to play and had the Texans up against the ropes much of the second half. Still, The Texans showed tremendous grit battling back to erase a 14 ... Read More »

Sunday Sports Feasts Abound!

tumblr_mbqvmxJY9F1rge9rdo6_400

By Maxwell Morgan Sunday marked another sports feast for the Houston sports fan, as the Texans and Dynamo both squared off in pivotal match-ups. The Texans travelled to Chicago to battle the one loss Bears, while the Dynamo hosted DC United in the Eastern Conference Finals of the MLS Playoffs. And what a day it was! The Dynamo kicked it off with a 3-1 victory, and the Texans capped the night pounding out a 13-6 victory. Things were looking shaky at first for the Dynamo letting in a first half goal and not producing much on the offensive side of ... Read More »

Texans and Dynamo Double Up W’s

After taking a week off for their bye week, the Texans were back Sunday to host the 3-4 Buffalo Bills. Poor Buffalo, it’s so damn cold, and they’ve been so mediocre/bad for so long. The Buffalo fans were a nice bunch though. Very friendly and humble. They’d try to throw the miraculous comeback all those years ago against the Oilers in our face, but like I mentioned earlier in the season, screw the Oilers, different team. These ain’t the damn “spOilers” either, as the Texans handled the Bills 21-9 in a game that they didn’t quite dominate like many would ... Read More »

Could Texas Become a Swing State?

Illustration by Blake Jones A look at how proposed voter ID legislation is attempting to silence the minority vote By Amanda Hart This past month a Federal District Court, along with a little help from the Voting Rights Act of 1965, thankfully struck down the recently passed Texas voter ID law, SB 14. The law would have required voters to show a government-issued identification to be able to cast a ballot this election cycle. A letter from the Justice Department to the state of Texas clearly outlines why Texas can’t have nice things, “We conclude that the total number of ... Read More »

Battle Red Day Beatdown

Mullet_tail

By Maxwell Morgan The Texans checked off another first Sunday, with their first ever victory over Baltimore. Who did their best to look like Balti-less getting beat 43-13. That’s right, 43-13! On their annual Battle Red Day,The Texans dominated the 5-1 Ravens to take sole possession of first place in the AFC. For a team that was supposed to be the Texans equal, the Ravens looked anything but. The Texans offense was nonexistent in their first three possessions. All three resulted in three and outs which prompted Andre Johnson to uncharacteristically “rally the troops”. His speech succeeded in calming his ... Read More »

Texans Get Discount Double Wrecked

pink reliant

By Maxwell Morgan The Texans suffered their first loss of the season Sunday night in what was an utter thrashing by the Green Bay Packers on NBC’s nationally televised Sunday Night Football. The Packers got out to an early 14-0 lead and never looked back as Aaron Rodgers threw six, I repeat, SIX whopping touchdowns to lead his team to a 42-24 victory. No amount of discount double check jokes can wipe off the egg on the Texans faces right now. Our hometown team got dominated in seemingly every facet of the game. Particularly, the mental side of the game, ... Read More »

Texans 5-0 After MNF Win

By Maxwell Morgan In a season of firsts, the Texans went to New York for their first nationally televised game of the season. They left with a first time ever 5-0 record, winning their first away Monday Night Football game, and suffering their first significant injury of the season. Brian Cushing, our defensive captain, is out for the season with a torn ACL that happened on a seemingly illegal clip away from play in the second quarter. So, even in this win, the Texans have sustained a significant loss. The national pundits had been scoffing at the matchup between the ... Read More »
