You(genious) brings Cold to the El Dorado
Del and Automator had Deltron 3030. Kool Keith had Dr. Octagonecologyst. Prince Paul had Prince Among Thieves. And for the past year or so, Houston’s very own You(genious): The Misfit of R&B has been presenting his own own “hip-hopera” concept album about a man who makes a faustian deal to break into the record business — COLD: The Musical.
Unlike those other records, though, to hear Cold you have to come out to one of You(genious)’s Imagination Cinema immersive theater performances, where you will be given a pair of blindfolds to wear and a cardboard box to lie on while the recording — which features a who’s who of Houston musicians — paints the story inside your head.
Tonight, You(genious) brings Cold to the historic El Dorado Ballroom on Elgin at Dowling, with live busking starting at 6:30 and curtains at 8:30. Get tickets here.
The event is BYOB (bring your own blanket), and blankets will be donated to the homeless after.
