“Ska! Ska! Ska! Ska!” Who represents local Houston music better than the high energy ‘Ska Train” known as Los Skarnales? With their mariachi and traditional Mexicana influences along with ska and punk styling, this band is one not to be missed.
Joined by Jungle Rockers and Mikey and the Drags, Los Skarnales will be live at The Continental Club this Friday, January 11. Dressed in suits and fadoras, the members of Los Skarnales usually begin their live shows with an electrifying entrance by these ‘Vatos Rudos.’ Featuring songs such as “Borracho,” “Una y Otra Vez,” “Perdida,” and “All Dressed Up,” the band’s setlist varies from ska to cumbia. Their use of instruments like the trumpet, saxaphone, trombone and chelo reflect their inspiration of ska, cumbia, reggae, rockabilly, swing, mambo, and danzones all with a vigorous punk attitude.
Los Skarnales has been touring the United States and Mexico alongside such artists as The Slackers, The Specials, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs and Agent Orange for almost 20 years. The band formed in 1994 out of the remains of local punk rock band Desorden, which gives way to where their punk aura originates from. With the horn section blowing and the rhythm section skanking, everyone on the floor cannot help but move around to the mesmorizing grooves and flavor that is Los Skarnales.
The doors open at 8:00 p.m. and the music starts at 9:00 p.m. and the cover charge is $12. Los Skarnales is one live show everyone from Houston should see at least once in their life. This will be a show that will stick in your memory for years to come.
