“A Nazi-hunting thriller writhing with double and triple-crosses and a supremely colourful cast.” –Metro (UK)
On Tuesday January 8, one of Houston’s bookstore gems, Murder by the Book, welcomes crime novelist Stuart Neville for a book signing and discussion on his latest novel Ratlines, a story set in Ireland 1963 where Nazis are harbored post-WWII.
Neville, an eclectic Irish artist, premieres his fourth novel, Ratlines, with a worldwide tour. His vivid details of vindictive crimes have awed crowds since his short stories began being published in a number of notable magazines such as the UK’s ThugLit.com. Neville’s burst onto the scene in America was seemingly unstoppable with his prior trilogy, consisting of the novels The Ghosts of Belfast, Collision, and Stolen Souls; earning outstanding awards including the most recent Anthony, Barry and McCavity Award. The way Neville fuses words together creates a visual spectacular that embeds the emotions of the characters with a story that allows the reader to investigate what is really being commented on through the use of words.
In a recent interview with Gerald Brennan of www.culturenorthernireland.com, Stuart said this of the setting of the novel, “They can be a help in that they act as cultural waypoints, recognizable things like the impending JFK visit that help readers grasp the place and time. But there is a danger of them becoming a crutch, too, a shortcut to building the setting. I hope I got the balance right.” (http://www.culturenorthernireland.org/article/3473/stuart-neville-from-armagh-to-la)
