There’s a new microcinema in town, 14 Pews and it’s located at the former home of the Aurora Picture Show at 800 Aurora in the north part of The Heights. Many of the films 14 Pews will unwind in March fill the slack created when the Angelika closed last year.

Playing March 5 is Alex Gibney’s stylish documentary Client 9, which details the rise and fall of New York attorney general Eliot Spitzer along with an analysis of metropolitan prostitution operations. This is the first screening of this film since it played once at last year’s Cinema Arts Film Festival. Gibney presents his facts with cinematic flash, and as is his style accompanies the story with recreations in addition to testimonials. Gibney also directs a segment of Freakonomics, another doc that plays at 14 Pews later in March.

By the way, The Aurora Picture Show also continues its mission showing films and videos at various venues in and around Houston. Aurora now takes their show on the road setting up projection to fit the venue. They will next show a program of Andy Warhol shorts and television appearances in Menil Park (1515 Sul Ross) on Friday night, March 4.

Per the Aurora press release: “the program will include episodes from Andy Warhol’s series “Andy Warhol’s 15 Minutes,” a cable television series from the 1980s which featured celebrities of the time interviewed by Warhol; “The Untitled Factory Diaries,” Warhol’s home movie series from the 60s and 70s, and highlights from his appearances on television sitcoms such as The Love Boat.”
