The Lion King 3D

Can you feel the love tonight? Those as well as other questions are answered in The Lion King 3D, in re-release for the next couple of weeks.

The Lion King helped usher in the revised version of Disney in the mid-90s (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, LK) and it deserves a second look if only for all its great songs. Being a little older, some of the more kid friendly aspects of the movie are lost on me, however, I’d totally forgotten that Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane share screen time and sing together as if to prophesize their reunion in the musical version of The Producers.

Bottom line is that Lion King is a complete rip off of the same company’s Bambi and if Disney would re-release that animated animal classic I would be first in line. The 3D didn’t do much for me but wasn’t annoying. Expect to see a lot of archetypal films getting the theatrical 3D treatment in upcoming months including Star Wars and Titanic.
